Pin It now!
I woke up Monday morning with a decision to transform my dull, boring, same ol'same bedroom into a vintage romantic - shabby chic themed room! The possibilities on this project are ENDLESS and I have SO MANY super chic ideas!!!
My first venture of course was to go vintage shopping! So my four year old son and I decided to go for a walk up to the local antique store. I didn't really expect to buy anything - but, once I got there I was in vintage heaven! Mason jars - check! They had what seemed like a million of them ... old trinket boxes, VERY vintage like, a mini oil lamp and this beautiful blue vase that reminded me of Tiffany's! I couldn't resist the purchases ... (see photo).
The Scale is a little 'creepy' but I see the artistic side to it - of resting on a bookcase with books on top of it. I just loved it ... even if it does look a little too vintage/scary. It's MINE!! xo
I had also had my heart set on finding some vintage frames - and I totally lucked out! The frames are not only gigantic but they are perfect and EXACTLY what I had in mind. The structure/design is super chic! The color - not so much! They will be under going an Extreme Shabby Chic makeover very soon, and I will probably replace the art work with some vintage photos of my family.
So - since I am on make overs- I thought I would share some before and afters of a couple projects I did today. The first one is of an old wooden frame I have had for ever. The wood work on it is so pretty, the boring brown, not so much my style. I'm surprised I have held onto it for so long. LOL
Here is the BEFORE:
I decided to go simple with this make over - and so I bought a can of Krylon indoor/outdoor Gloss spray paint in Blue Ocean Breeze. The color matches my color scheme ...
Just an FYI - it is wise, to use spray paint in a well ventilated area, probably best not to use it in a basement ... lesson learned. Don't worry, after I realized my entire upstairs smelt like spray paint, I opened the windows and doors and moved my projects outside, where I should have started. Here is a during photo -
So, I let it dry for about an hour or two and the I got some folk art acrylic paint in a champagne color and a fan brush and brushed it over my frame to add that vintage/rustic feel to it - as seen here in this photo: I am VERY happy with the finish product! It will look super Shabby chic in my bedroom! :)
AFTER:
Here is a BEFORE/AFTER of a mirror I changed up using the same technique as the frame.

And finally ... the AFTER:
Not the best photos - my camera phone was more convenient then busting out my actual camera. Feel free to leave any comments! :)
